Changing the Way We Treat Alzheimer’s
Traditionally, Alzheimer’s is treated with one or two drugs. This may initially help slow the disease, but it doesn’t last. The idea of focusing on a single drug or single intervention is simply not appropriate if we are ever going to be able to offer up any meaningful therapy for the more than 5.4 million Americans who are afflicted with this devastating condition.

Dr. Dale Bredesen, the preeminent researcher in the prevention of Alzheimer’s, describes a “systems approach” to dealing with the disease. He looks at a variety of factors that seem to conspire, ultimately leading to brain degeneration that we recognize as representing this disease. Using his approach which he termed, “systems therapeutics,” Dr. Bredensen has actually been able to reverse cognitive decline in this devastating condition.

In fact, he was able to demonstrate improvement in nine of 10 participants utilizing this comprehensive multi-modality approach. What is so profound about these findings is that this is the first time that there has been a demonstration that memory loss in patients may be reversed, and, the improvement may in fact be sustained.

Dr. Bredesen describes a 36 point intervention that includes things such as optimizing sleep, aerobic exercise, keeping homocysteine below 7, reducing simple carbohydrates, increasing ketogenesis, keeping A1c below 5.5, optimizing vitamin D levels, reducing grain consumption, and adding sources of good fat for the brain like coconut oil.

Here at the Alzheimer’s Prevention Center, Dr. Dirk Parvus is using Dr. Bredesen’s model for reversing the signs and symptoms of Alzheimer’s, though a concentrated step by step program that will change the lives of patients afflicted with this devastating disease.
Below we outline some of the steps:

Complete Alzheimer Evaluation
Our Complete Alzheimer Evaluation is a head-to-toe examination and in-depth screening, laboratory and imaging evaluation designed to get a blueprint of your current Cognitive functioning and determine if you are in one of the pre-Alzheimer/Dementia stages.  Before developing Alzheimer’s, one develops SCI (Subjective Cognitive Decline) for about 10 years which worsens to MCI (Minimal Cognitive decline) and early Alzheimer’s or Dementia. We have screening tests to evaluate where you are and to see whether the proven MEND (Metabolic Enhancement of Neurodegeneration) protocol to reverse early Alzheimers and other Dementia is right for you to REVERSE your cognitive decline and improve your mental acuity.  You will receive one-on-one attention by our expert staff, and regular follow up by our health coaches and physicians to closely monitor your progress back to normal mental acuity and cognition.

There are 4 stages :
Stage 1 - Collect
Initial FREE screening using SAGE and MOCA questionnaires and CNS Vital signs (on-line) to determine whether you are suffering from Cognitive decline and at what stage you are.
If you are a candidate for the MEND Protocol, then we will need to do the following:
  •  Genetic testing
  •  Lab Work
  •  Lifestyle information
  •  Medical History
  •  Current Medications
  •  MRI/PET scans of the brain
  • A phlebotomist will call on you in the convenience of your own home or office at a time that suits you to draw the initial blood work. You will receive a detailed Health Questionnaire to complete prior to your initial office visit.

Stage 2 - Pinpoint
(There are nearly 50 known causes of Cognitive Decline and active causes vary from one person to another. The MEND protocol analyzes your information to identify the unique combination of underlying causes of your cognitive decline. At this stage, we do:
  • Complete medical history and physical exam
  • Expert review of laboratory tests
  • Strength and flexibility testing
  • Reaction time/memory testing using CNS Vital Signs
  • Body Composition testing using InBody Analyzer
  • Optimal wellness and Age Management teaching with Personalized Optimal Heath Plan
  • Nutritional and exercise consultation with personalized exercise program and healthy diet
  • Individualized hormone and neutraceutical treatment plan to meet your goals.
Stage 3 - Create
Once the unique underlying causes of your cognitive decline have been identified , the MEND protocol identifies the best treatment options, including FDA-approved medications, supplements and lifestyle changes. You will review your MEND treatment protocol with Dr. Parvus and be retested every 3 months and your progress and treatment plan will be discussed and updated.

Stage 4 - Support
Through your MEND Care program, you’re assigned a health coach to help you follow your personalized treatment plan. You will regularly speak with your coach to set goals, measure changes and celebrate successes.

Dr. Parvus is using proven research that for the first time demonstrates actual improvement in brain function by addressing various factors known to be profoundly influential in determining whether the brain functions well or not. This is very empowering information and certainly runs counter to the mentality of “one disease, one pill.” If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or dementia, call us at 772-564-7887 today for a consultation and learn how you can heal your brain and reverse the symptoms of memory loss and cognitive decline.
